Stump Grinding & Removal
If you have had a tree removed from your property, you may have been left with a stump. This is unsightly and can even be dangerous. Not least, it’s a trip hazard which gets in the way when you're enjoying your yard. But tree stumps can also attract termites and spread disease to other plants - making stump removal or grinding a smart option. Get in touch with our team to learn more.
Why bother with stump removal?
If you’ve been left with a tree stump in your yard, you’ll have already noticed it can be inconvenient, cause a trip hazard, and prevents you from using the space for something more useful. However, leaving a stump can also attract termites or other unwanted garden visitors, and if the tree died due to disease, leaving the stump in place can cause the disease to spread to other plants in the garden. Tree Service Pros of Meridian advise removing or grinding tree stumps to avoid any of these unnecessary hazards.
Can I remove a stump myself?
It is unlikely that you’ll be able to remove a tree stump yourself, unless the tree was very young or small when felled. Tree stumps are large and heavy, and the root network stretches deep into the ground. Trying to remove a stump without specialist equipment is unlikely to be successful - and very likely to give you a bad back.
What’s the difference between stump removal and stump grinding?
The main difference is that removing the stump will get rid of some of the root network of the tree, while grinding will not.
Stump removal - as the name suggests - involves removing the stump entirely, including as much of the root network that is accessible. Stump grinding on the other hand takes a different approach. In this case, the stump is ground down to below the level of the yard, using a specialist piece of equipment. The stump itself becomes wood chip which you can use elsewhere on your yard or have removed. The resulting hole is then refilled, ready to use the space.
